August 9 | 6:00 AM

Don is doing well.  Been having some difficulty getting sleep.  Working through PT and OT to get back to his ole self.  He has been having visitors and appreciates the support.  He calls to check on Amy and get an update on the Mickelsens everyday.  Greig has been able to work from Don's house to help with care.  He is a trooper and the family is so grateful that he is able to make such sacrafices to help Don get better.  His donor site is still healing.  We are hoping that the batadine 'scab' comes off soon.  The stiffness of that protective cover pulls on the leg and is very uncomfortable.  

August 6 | 6:00PM

Don went home today!  He is glad to be home and thanks everyone for your prayers, thoughts and kind words.  He is making a lot of progress and wil continue with a lot of physical therapy.  A long road ahead but significant process.  Honestly, watching hm work so hard to get better, I forget that he is 85 years old.  He is doing amazing things and is such an inspiration.

August 2 | 1:00PM

Don is having a good week.  His Donor site is still trying to heal but is getting better.  He is in rehab and they are working him pretty hard.  He is focused on getting strong enough to go home.  He has multiple rehab sessions during the day.  His bandages are off and his auto graphs are healing nicely.  They originally said that he could go home next Tuesday.  He decided that he wanted to push that date up to this Friday and that has been his goal.  He was told this week that they think he will be able to be dischared on Friday.

July 29 | 6:00PM

Don is doing well!  He has been moved to the Rehab wing.  He does rehab about 3 times a day.  I spoke to the Burn Surgeon and he said that Don was 'fricken Wolverine".  He is healing really well and he is super pleased.  This is really good since they usually expect older patients with these kind of burns to have complications.  They think he might go home in a week.  Don is focused on getting home sooner than later.

JULY 27 | 9:00AM

Don had skin graft surgery on Tuesday and was in A LOT of pain on Wednesday.  It has been the worst pain he has had since being in the hospital.  They changed his bandages on Wednesday and that was more pain, but they won't have to change the bandages for several days.  It was a rough day, BUT good news, they moved him to a rehab room!!  And he will NOT have any more surgeries!!  It is never easy to see one you love and care about in constant pain, and not be able to do anything about it.  Prayers are needed to help get through all the pain Don is having.  He is the perfect patient, but even perfect patients have pain and struggle.  Send him some positive words of encouragement!

JULY 25 | 8:00PM

Don was also able to visit with the Lake Powell Houseboat guests! They were all able to hang out together in Amy's room.

The Doctors had Don up and walking a couple of times.  He is in good spirits. He might be moving to rehab (just down the hall) in a little while.

The nurse said that if they were to put a manual together for their other patients on "How to be a good patient and recover quickly", Don and Amy would be their examples! They are both excellent patients and do whatever they are told!!

Don had surgery today.  He was not scheduled until 4:30 so he had to go all day with no food.  That just doesn't make a person happy.  More updates on his surgery soon...

JULY 21 | 7:00PM

Don is doing good.  He had a busy day as they had him up and walking quite a bit.  He is tired. Hie is in good spirits today and focused on recovery!

JULY 19 | 10:00PM

Don had surgery yesterday.  It was pretty painful. He has been working with pain management most of the day today. He has been walking and got to spend a good portion of the day in Amy's room. He has also been a little groggy as they have been working with his pain dosage. 

JULY 17 | 9:00PM

Don has had to do some bandage changes.  It was super painful. He has been up for a walk and has had a couple sessions of physical therapy today.  He has surgery tomorrow. He has been pretty tired today but has been, overall in good spirits and pretty talkative! 

JULY 16 | 9:00PM

Don will have more surgery on Tuesday. He is in great spirits and is laser focused on doing whatever is required to get home! He is likely to have a few more surgeries. Depending on the success of these surgeries he could be home in a couple of weeks.  He is a trooper! 

JULY 14 | 9:00PM

Don had second degree and 3rd degree burns, but is doing great! When visited with on Friday, he was very chatty and happy to facetime his family which were on their way from Grand Junction.  

He had surgery for his initial skin grafting which will hopefully speed up the healing process.
